Description

Number 11 Upper Oakley is a house, originally a farmhouse, dating to the early 17th century, with a later 18th-century range. The building comprises two main sections: the original parlour cell is located on the right, while the left-hand range likely replaced earlier structures. The older section is timber-framed, and the later range is likely constructed of clay lumps, both of which are now plastered. The roofs are covered with pantiles. The house is two storeys high, with part of it having an attic. Most of the windows are casements dating from the 19th century. The parlour cell features an 18th-century ground-floor window with square-leaded panes and a hoodmould, and above this is an original five-light window with ovolo mullions. There is a boarded entrance door. The gable end facing the road has mid-19th-century small-paned metal casement windows with cusped heads to the upper panes, and wooden hoodmoulds. A gable stack is situated at the junction of the two ranges. The left-hand range has two additions, one to the rear which was formerly used as a Post Office. The parlour cell retains its original timber framing, including an ovolo-moulded floorbeam in the ground-floor ceiling.
