Description
Bedingfield Almshouses are a group of almshouses located on Lambseth Street in Eye. They were founded in 1636 by Nicholas Bedingfield, rebuilt in 1850, and converted for three occupations between 1975 and 1977. The building is constructed of red brick with blue brick diapering and features a roof made of fish-scale tiles. It is a single-storey structure with a five-window range. The facade has three projecting gables; the outer gables have straight parapets on kneelers, while the central gable has a shaped gable on kneelers. Each gable contains a three-light stone mullioned window with a stilted head. Between the gables, there is a two-light mullioned window and a vertically-panelled door, with an additional entrance on the left end. Above the gable windows, there are stone inscription scrolls that read: "Rebuilt...Anno Domini...MDCCCL." The roof is gabled and has two transverse ridge stacks with twin decorated circular flues. The interior has not been inspected.
