Description
Lily Farm House is a house dating from the late 16th century, with a possibly earlier core, and has been altered in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with roughcast and a steeply pitched pantiled roof. The layout is a three-cell lobby entry plan, which may have been built to replace an earlier small open hall house. The building has two storeys and an attic, with the entrance located to the right of the centre between the hall and parlour, accessed via a 20th-century gabled porch. The windows are 20th-century casements, although some original diamond mullions are still visible. There is an axial ridge stack, and the gable ends show exposed plates and purlins. At the rear of the stack, there is a segmental-headed oven recess. The house has had 20th-century additions to the right end and to the rear.
Inside, the close studding has been altered. The hall features a stop-chamfered axial binding beam and a wave-moulded fireplace bressumer, while the parlour has a cross axial binding beam. On the first floor, there is a chamfered brick fireplace with a 4-centred arch, plastered to resemble ashlar, and a herringbone patterned overmantel. The posts are jowled with an arched brace to the tie beam. The roof structure includes lower butt purlins, upper clasped purlins with cranked collars and cranked windbraces, and collars that clasp single purlins in the parlour bay. The house is situated on a partially moated site.
