Description
Church Cottage is a house, later divided into two or three dwellings, dating to the early 17th century and altered in the 20th century. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a steeply pitched pantiled roof. Originally, the house likely had a cross passage plan, composed of three rooms. It has two storeys. A 20th-century gabled porch is situated towards the left, and likely marks the original position of the cross passage. The windows are 20th-century casements, some with one, two, or three lights. A ridge stack is located to the right of the centre of the building, between the hall and parlour. The left gable end reveals the original plates and purlins. Modern additions have been made to the rear. The interior of the hall contains a roll-moulded bressumer over the fireplace, while the parlour features an ovolo-moulded axial binding beam. Other original features visible include mortices for diamond mullions, close studding with tension braces, jowled posts to cambered tie beams, collars clasping the purlins, and wind braces.
