Description
Wood Cottage is a house that was later divided into two dwellings. It dates from the mid-16th century, with a stack inserted and the interior floored in the 17th century. The building has undergone alterations and extensions in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered and has a steeply pitched pantiled roof. Originally, it consisted of three cells with a small open hall, and the stack is positioned backing onto a cross passage. The house is now two storeys high, with entrances located in the original cross passage position. It has two-light glazing bar casement windows and boxed eaves. The left gable end has curved brackets that were part of a formerly jettied gable, while the right gable end features a pentice board. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing added in the 20th century. Inside, the framing has been altered but retains two cross axial stop-chamfered binding beams, stop-chamfered joists, jowled posts with arched braces to cambered tie beams, and reverse curved braces in the walling.
