Description

Bridge Farm Cottages is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the 16th century, with extensions from the 17th century and alterations made in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame that is roughcast and faced with brick, topped by a steeply pitched roof covered with machine tiles and pantiles. Originally, it likely consisted of a small two-bay open hall, with a slightly taller three-bay parlour and a lobby entry added to the left side. Both sections are now two storeys high, with entrances located at the far right of each section and 20th-century casement windows. There is an axial ridge stack at the right end of the addition and an internal stack at the left end, which has been rebuilt. The left gable end still shows a shaped bracket that was part of a formerly jettied gable, while the right gable end has been faced with brick in the 20th century. Inside, the right-hand cottage has an inserted floor and a cambered tie beam, but much of the frame is concealed and altered. The left-hand cottage has not been inspected.
