Description

Old Lawn Cottage is a house dating from the early 16th century. It has one storey and attics, constructed with a timber frame and roughcast exterior. The roof is hipped and thatched, featuring an axial chimney that was rebuilt in 19th-century red brick. The windows are mainly 19th-century casements, with some having iron lights and very small panes. The first-floor windows are low and positioned beneath the eaves. There are two 19th-century boarded entrance doors. Inside, there are heavy unchamfered ceiling joists, arch windbraced studding, and evidence of a diamond-mullioned window. The roof features a good arch-braced tiebeam and coupled-rafter construction. It is possibly built as an ancillary range to Lawn Cottage, constructed corner-to-corner with its service cell.
