Description
Villa Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse located on Metfield Road in Mendham Withersdale. The building features a timber frame with plastered walls and a colourwashed brick gable end on the right. It has a roof made of glazed black pantiles and is two storeys high, arranged in a three-cell form. The facade includes four windows, which are a mix of 19th and 20th-century casements.
The entrance is a cross-passage with a six-panel door, where the upper two panels are glazed. Inside, there is an internal stack and a 20th-century single-storey lean-to on the left gable end, along with additional lean-tos at the rear. Some timber framing is visible inside, particularly at the first floor, and there are indications of two original windows in the rear wall. A blocked service doorway with a four-centre arched head is located against the cross-passage. One of the ground floor rooms features heavy plain joists. In the hall, the fireplace lintel is inscribed with the date 'February 24 SS 1684'. The roof appears to have been replaced later, possibly in the 19th century.
