Description
This is a former guildhall, now comprising shop premises and two dwellings, located in Stradbroke. The core of the building dates to the early 16th century, with significant alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed and plastered, with the upper floor of the front facade having exposed studding, although this was re-faced in the mid-20th century. The right gable end is of colourwashed brick dating from the 16th to 17th centuries. Some very old plasterwork remains at the rear of the building. The roof is hipped and tiled with glazed black pantiles, with plain tiles to the rear.
The building is two storeys high, and the first floor at the front is jettied, with a partial underbuilding beneath. Canted bay windows from the 20th century are set beneath a continuous plaintiled hood. A central, late 19th-century open wooden porch is supported by octagonal timber posts with bargeboards featuring pierced quatrefoils and a spike finial. Various 19th and 20th-century entrance doors are present. A gable stack is located on the right-hand side. The interior has not been fully inspected.
