Description
Barn Cottage is a house dating from the mid or late 16th century. It is two storeys high and features a timber-framed and plastered structure, with large late 20th century panels. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has a central late 20th century chimney made of red brick. The windows are small-pane casements from the 19th century. The entrance door is glazed and panelled, located in a late 20th century pantiled porch. The porch and the attached carport to the right are not of special interest.
Originally, Barn Cottage was part of the adjacent house, Rose Cottage, until they were divided in the 19th century. The interior consists of two cells; the left cell serves as a hall and features good moulded early 16th century ceiling joists and beams, which may have been reused, along with a well-preserved open lintelled fireplace. The close-studding is tension-braced. The right cell was added in the 18th century and has typical exposed framing. There is also a rear extension that dates from the 18th or 19th century, which was remodelled in the 20th century.
