Description
Home Farm is a house with an early 16th century core that underwent significant remodelling in the 17th century and mid 20th century. It was likely built as a parlour wing to the adjoining Maypole Inn, which is believed to have once been known as The Maltsters Arms. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring a timber-framed structure encased in mid 20th century red brick. It has a concrete plaintiled roof and an internal end chimney with a rebuilt shaft made of 19th century gault brick on the left side. The house includes two 20th century raking casement dormers, mid 20th century small-pane casements, and a fully glazed entrance door. The cell to the right of the entrance, adjacent to Stowmarket Road, showcases fine early 16th century framing. It has heavy exposed first floor joists with a triangular section, each featuring four cavettos and a rib, characteristic of around 1500. The building has close-studding and a clasped purlin roof dating from the late 17th or 18th century. It is included in the listing despite the 20th century remodelling due to its high-quality 16th century framing and its historical connection to the Maypole Inn.
