Description
Goshawks is a house that likely dates from the 17th century, although it has some features from the 16th century. It has undergone alterations around 1800 and again in 1980. The building is one storey with attics and has a three-cell plan with a cross-entry. It is constructed of timber framing and plaster, with a pantiled roof that was once thatched. There is one 19th-century gabled casement dormer. The house features an 18th-century red brick axial chimney and a 19th-century gault brick chimney to the left. There are two early 19th-century windows with iron casements and very small panes. The entrance door, which is late 18th or early 19th century, has a panelled design with the upper pair of panels adapted to hold small-paned lights that match the windows. A 19th-century range, originally added as a shop, is now part of the dwelling and is set forward to the right. The parlour cell to the right contains heavy unchamfered 16th-century floor joists that appear to have been reused. The close-studding, which looks 17th-century, is exposed in other areas, and there is a lintelled open fireplace in the hall. A two-storey rear extension was added around 1980.
