Description

Knight's Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, now divided into two cottages, dating from the late 15th and early 16th centuries to the left, with a later section built in the late 16th century. The structure is timber framed and plastered, with areas of whitewashed brick casing. It has a pantiled roof, featuring glazed black tiles at the front. The later range originally included an attic. The farmhouse has two storeys. Various old casement windows are present, with two mullioned windows exposed; the window in the earlier section has renewed diamond mullions, and another is visible from inside. A plank door is located on the right side of the building. A gable stack is situated at the junction of the two sections. The earlier part is arranged in two bays, and traces of sooting on the upper floor suggest a former open hall. The central truss originally featured cranked braces and supported a queen-post roof, though the roof structure is now from the 17th century. Within the left-hand cottage, good studding, an 18th-century bolection-moulded fireplace, and the original newel stairs remain. In the right-hand cottage, most of the timber framing is concealed.
