Description
Priory Lodge is a lodge to Mendham Priory, dated on a buttress 'ER 1822'. It is constructed of flint rubble and incorporates medieval stonework from St. Mary's Priory, which is located about 600 meters to the north. The building has a slated roof and is a single storey in height, designed in a picturesque style. The facade is symmetrical, featuring a central gable with parapeted sections on either side, and buttresses made of semi-circular and moulded stonework. The buttresses and the apex of the gable are topped with carved stone pieces, which are also found along the side walls. The doorway has a 2-centred arch and a boarded door, with a coat of arms above it displaying six lions and Fleurs-de-lys, topped by a crown. On either side of the doorway are pointed-arch casement windows with Y-tracery, and in the outer bays, there are segmental-headed niches.
