Description
Nos 7 and 9 Lower Brook Street are a red brick front applied to an earlier timber-framed and plastered building, originally two houses. The building now consists of a main block with later extensions to the north and south, all in a matching style. It is two storeys high, with cellars below. The main block has six windows across its front, while the north extension, which has a higher eaves line, has three windows (two on the first storey). The south extension, with a lower eaves line, also has three windows. The first-floor windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars; the north extension's windows are plain. A raised brick band runs between the storeys, and there is a brick plinth at the base. The main block has an eight-panel door within a good Roman Doric wood doorcase, featuring panelled reveals, fluted pilasters, a triglyph frieze with rose decorations, and a pediment. The roof is tiled with moulded wood eaves cornices. Gabled wings extend to the rear, eastward.
Nos 7, 9, and 15 form a group with Nos 6 to 18 (even) and 18A.
