Description

This is a timber-framed building dating from around 1260, with a significantly altered appearance from the mid-to-late 19th century. It occupies a prominent corner position on Lower Brook Street and Tacket Street, projecting into Upper Brook Street and visually terminating the southern end of the street. The building is two storeys high with attics and cellars, and has an overall five-window front. The Tacket Street elevation has two double-hung sash windows with margin glazing bars. The Lower Brook Street elevation has one double-hung sash window with glazing bars, set within a flush cased frame. Number 3, incorporated within the main building, is a two-storey timber-framed structure with two three-light oriel bay windows beneath a wide, overhanging eaves. The ground floor currently houses 19th-century shop fronts. A continuous balustraded parapet with name panels and a stucco modillion cornice run along the top of the building, while the roofs are tiled, with more recent tiling on the Tacket Street side.
