Description
14 Museum Street is an early to mid-19th century house made of grey gault brick. It was originally the southern half of a larger building that included No 12 and an archway, which is now a new building. The house has two storeys, attics, and cellars, featuring a parapet and a moulded stucco cornice with modillions, a plinth, and stucco quoins.
It has a three-window range with double-hung sash windows that have glazing bars. The first-storey windows are adorned with moulded shouldered architraves and cornices, and they feature small balconies with ornamental cast iron window guards. The ground-storey windows are framed by heavy stucco moulded architraves and sills supported by panelled stub brackets. Two of the windows have segmental pediments on enriched console brackets, while one window, which was formerly a doorway, has a triangular pediment on enriched console brackets. The roof is covered with 20th-century slate and includes two attic windows on the slate-hung front.
No 10 and Nos 14 to 32 (even) form a group with Nos 1 to 11 (odd), No 13 (Old Museum Rooms), and Nos 14 and 16 on Arcade Street.
