Description
The Old Bell Inn is an early 16th century timber-framed and plastered building with an L-shaped plan, which has undergone significant alterations in the 18th century and later. The upper storey juts out on the north front and west side, with the west side showcasing the best of the 16th-century features. The ground storey and a wing extending south reveal exposed timber-framing, while the jettied upper storey displays exposed joists and a partly carved bressumer. Notable features include a moulded wall plate that is partly embattled, an original window with moulded mullions, and a carved corner post depicting a bell. The north front primarily features 18th-century windows, consisting of a three-window range with double-hung sashes and glazing bars set in flush cased frames. The ground storey has a central doorway with remnants of the old head and one carved spandrel, along with a 19th-century public house front. The roofs are tiled.
