Description

This is a terrace of ten early to mid-19th century houses located on Museum Street. The buildings are constructed of grey gault brick and extend over three storeys with cellars. The original design incorporated a ten-window range, but numbers 26, 28, and 30 have four, three, and three windows respectively. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, set within moulded stucco architraves and sills which feature small bracket details. The ground floor windows of number 30 lack glazing bars. A moulded stucco band runs along the facade at the level of the first-floor window sills. The ground-floor windows are set in slightly recessed brick panels, and the facade is subtly recessed in alternate window ranges on the upper floors. Number 26 has a 20th-century doorcase with a plain surround, while numbers 28 and 30 retain simpler moulded architraves and cornices. The roofs are slate covered and feature cornices with carved modillion details. The terrace is part of a group with numbers 10, 14-32 (even), numbers 1-11 (odd), number 13 (Old Museum Rooms), and numbers 14 and 16, Arcade Street.
