Description
19 Tower Street is a notable 18th-century building featuring a red brick front with a rebuilt parapet and a wooden cornice with modillions. The structure has two storeys and a basement, with a total of seven window openings. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars set in plain reveals. The northern end of the building, which has one window opening, is slightly recessed above the ground storey and finished in plaster. A stucco band runs between the two storeys. The central doorway has panelled reveals and is framed by an elegant Ionic doorcase with plain columns, a frieze, and a modillion pediment. At the rear, there is a later brick facade that includes a two-storey bay. The roof is hipped and tiled. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 13 to 21 (odd), the Ipswich Arts Theatre, and the Church of St Mary-le-Tower.
