Description
17 Tower Street is a late 18th century red brick house featuring a parapet and a modillion cornice. It has a symmetrical facade and is set back from the street. The building is two storeys high with a five-window range arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars in the first storey, set in plain reveals with gauged brick flat arches. The central three-window section slightly projects forward and is topped by a modillion pediment. The entrance features a central four-panel door with a plain fanlight and panelled reveals, sheltered by a Doric porch that has fluted columns, a triglyph frieze, and a cornice. The roof is double span, with part tiled and part slate covering. This house, along with Nos 13 to 21 (odd), forms a group with the Ipswich Arts Theatre and the Church of St Mary-le-Tower.
