Description
The Old Custom House is a customs house, now a residential building, dating from the early 19th century. It was altered and converted into a house in the 20th century. The structure is made of gault brick, rendered at the rear, with a pantiled roof and an internal gable end stack of brick.
The exterior features a two-storey front with two windows. The entrance is located on the first floor and consists of a six-panel door set in a reeded doorcase, which is accessed by a flight of eight stone-faced brick steps. On the ground floor, there are two large fixed windows, each originally having 20 panes; the window on the right has been partly converted into a glazed door. Both ground floor windows have segmental arches. Flanking the upper door are three-light 19th-century metal casement windows. The rear elevation has been refenestrated with four 20th-century Crittall windows and features a dentil eaves cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
