Description
Downton Cottage is a house dating from the 16th to early 17th century. It is a single range built in two stages, featuring a timber frame and plastered exterior, with some remnants of older plasterwork visible in panels. The south gable end is made of colourwashed brick, and the roof is covered with pantiles. The building has two storeys, with a two-window range on the north side and a three-window range on the south side. The windows are casements, some of which have square leaded panes, and they feature shallow pointed triangular heads. There is one internal stack, a 17th-century external stack on the south side, and a 19th-century external stack on the north side. A modern boarded door is located at the rear. Inside, the first-floor fireplace includes a plaster overmantel adorned with two lions and foliated lozenges.
