Description

Beck Farmhouse is a former farmhouse with a late 15th century core, featuring alterations and extensions from the late 16th and 17th centuries. The building has two storeys and a three-cell form. It is constructed with timber framing and rendered, with plaintiles on the front slope of the roof and pantiles on the rear. An internal chimney stack has a plain rebuilt red brick shaft. The farmhouse includes various old casement windows, with two-light and three-light windows on the upper floor, and two ground floor windows with transoms, all featuring pintle hinges. There are also two plank doors.

Two and a half bays of the original medieval house remain, with the roof raised in the 16th century and later extensions added at both ends. The chimney stack, which may have replaced a smoke bay, was inserted at the lower end of the medieval hall. The remains of the service end partition, including two doorheads, rest on one of the fireplace lintels. The building features full height studs, reversed and ogee braces, and remnants of diamond-mullioned windows. The ground floor ceilings are notably low, with heavy unchamfered flat joists in the centre and left end of the house, while the joists to the right of the stack are set on edge. The roof has two rows of stepped butt purlins with pared-off ends and cambered collars.
