Description

Elm House Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse, with later additions. It originally had a 3-cell plan, extended by a cross-wing at the lower end. The building is timber-framed, now rendered and lined, with a roof of black glazed pantiles. A tall, internal chimney stack rises from the centre, finished with a plain white brick shaft. Windows are mullion-and-transome type, with three lights to each floor, featuring square leaded panes, and one two-light casement. A gabled porch, added in the 20th century, provides access via a studded plank door. Originally a cross-entry house, the doorways have been blocked and replaced with a lobby entrance. The interior shows some Georgian influence, but retains the main posts and main beams, which have a wide chamfer and scroll or curved stops. A two-storey brick extension was added along the rear in the 18th century.
