Description
The cartlodge with granary or hayloft above at Boundary Farm dates from the mid-16th century and is now used for stabling. It is timber-framed, with the upper floor rendered, and one side of the ground floor, which faces north-west and was formerly open, is now infilled with painted blockwork. The roof is covered with clay pantiles. The building features two stable doors on the ground floor and two upper doors on the north-west side. It has a fine frame consisting of five bays, with closely-set flat unchamfered joists and large chamfered main beams on the ground floor. The ground floor is divided into two areas, with the partition extending up into the roof. On the upper floor, there are blocked diamond-mullioned windows. The corners have cranked arched braces, and there are similar larger braces supporting the tie-beams. The roof structure is a queen-post design. This farmstead is located at the junction of three parishes, and the farmhouse associated with it is listed under Ilketshall St. Margaret.
