Description

The building at 8-12 Market Hill is a market hall dating from 1852, though incorporating a tablet at the rear dated 1798, which likely relates to the building's origins. It is a three-storey structure of red brick with a slate roof and an eaves soffit. The front has six windows, each with sash glazing bars and a flat arch. There are three shop fronts with wooden cases. A tablet on the first floor of number 10 is inscribed "EFG 1860-1873", commemorating Edward Fitz-Gerald's residence there. A passageway runs under the building between numbers 10 and 12. The listed buildings in Market Hill form a group around The Shire Hall.
