Description
The North Eastern Chapel at Kirkley Cemetery is a cemetery chapel built in 1880 by JL Clemence. It features random stone construction with stone dressings and a roof made of alternating bands of plain and fishscale tiles. Designed in the Early English style, the chapel has stepped angle buttresses and coped gables. The simple nave includes four small lancet windows on the sides and a south porch. The east end is adorned with three tall lancets above a continuous blind arcade. A bellcote is located on the western end gable, and below it is a row of three lancets over a lean-to bier shed, although the doorway to this shed is now blocked. The chapel is part of a group that includes the south western chapel and the lychgate.
