Description
The Richard Henry Reeve Memorial, erected in 1890, is located in Kensington Gardens on the east side of the boating lake. The memorial features a granite base, a plinth and column made of Portland stone, and a bronze lion.
The design includes an Ionic column with a square plinth. Inscribed around the base of the plinth on four brass tablets are the words: "IN MEMORY OF/ RICHARD HENRY REEVE/ LORD OF THE/ MANOR OF LOWESTOFT/ WHO DIED OCTOBER/ 1888 THIS FOUNTAIN/ IS ERECTED BY/ MARY ETHELIND FRANEY." The lower third of the fluted column is topped with an Ionic capital. Above this is a small square section of entablature featuring a dentilled cornice, upon which sits a bronze winged lion sejant on a boat. The column is supported by a moulded cruciform plinth, which rests on a two-stepped concrete base.
