Description
Little Beck Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that dates back to the early 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The building has a main range and a cross-wing, with part of it being two storeys and part having two storeys and attics. The main range is timber-framed, rendered, and faced in Edwardian mock-timbering, topped with black glazed pantiles. There is a brick extension from around 1980 at the north end, while the 19th-century cross-wing is constructed of whitewashed brick.
A notable feature is the large internal chimney-stack in Tudor brick on the main range, which has a two-tier base with a small recessed blank panel and a wide shaft with unusually shaped ends. The main range features 20th-century three-light mullion-and-transom windows, while the cross-wing has casements with segmental arched openings. The front of the farmhouse has an enclosed, gabled brick and mock timber porch, and the back has a two-storey mock timber porch with an open ground floor, both of which are Edwardian.
To the right of the chimney-stack are the oldest three bays of the building. On the upper floor, there are cambered tie-beams and the remains of long arched braces from two open trusses, likely leading to a large upper room. On the ground floor, there is a main beam with a 4-inch chamfer and broach stops, which appear to be contemporary with the chimney-stack. The wall-plate has been doubled, and the section to the left of the stack is an 18th-century extension. The chimney-stack has been tunnelled through to accommodate a straight stair, and the roof features stepped butt purlins. The remainder of the interior does not contain any notable features.
