Description
Manor Farmhouse, formerly known as Manor House, is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century and early 17th century. It has two storeys and attics in the main range, with a two-storey service wing at the southeast end. The structure is timber-framed and rendered, featuring black glazed pantiles on the front slope of the roof and clay pantiles on the rear. An internal chimney stack has a large plain red brick shaft.
The north-east gable end is notable for its fine brickwork, which includes octagonal corner turrets (though the pinnacles are missing), two moulded string courses, and two blocked 3-light ovolo-moulded mullioned windows on each storey. The associated chimney stack shows the truncated remains of octagonal shafts and a blank recessed panel beneath. The front has a full-height gabled porch, while a lean-to extension at the back serves as a later stair.
Windows throughout include 2-light and 3-light casements with a single horizontal bar in the lights. Inside the main range, the ground floor features main beams and joists that are ovolo-moulded with stepped stops and bar, along with moulded post-heads. On the upper floor, there is evidence that the roof has been raised, displaying one row of clasped purlins and one row of unstepped butt purlins. The service wing is slightly later in date than the main range.
