Description

Ivy Lodge is a gatehouse located on Hollesley Road in Rendlesham, dating from the early 19th century. Constructed from flint rubble with ashlar quoins and stone dressings, it is designed as a mock Romanesque ruin built for Lord Rendlesham as an entrance to Rendlesham Hall. The stone used is said to have come from the ruins of Butley Abbey. The main roof is not visible, but the outshuts at the rear feature slate roofs. The towers have sash windows with glazing bars, and the openings are topped with stilted arches and jambs made of ashlar. The main archway features a double pointed arch with two rows of moulding that spring from engaged columns with blocked capitals.
