Description

The Church of St John the Baptist is a Grade I listed parish church located in Wantisden. It dates back to the 14th century and features a square tower, chancel, and nave constructed from ashlar in coralline crag, built upon 12th-century walls. The church has plaintiles on the roof. Notable architectural elements include a Norman south doorway with one order of colonnettes and a hoodmould decorated with flat nutmeg designs. Inside, there is a Norman window in the chancel and a Norman chancel arch. The font is from the late 12th century, and the benches are adorned with poppyheads and grotesques on the arms.
