Description
The Gables is a house, formerly known as Tunstall Hall, dating from the 16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, except for the east side of the cross wing, which features exposed studwork and red brick herringbone infill. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The building has an H plan layout with a one-storey and attic central range and two-storey cross wings. There are outshuts and modern additions at the rear. The windows are scattered, mostly consisting of casements, while the east cross wing has a ground floor sash window in a recessed frame with glazing bars. There is one dormer window with a casement. The entrance doorway features a bracketed gable canopy and a six-panelled door. The house has three brick diagonal attached chimneys and a notable ceiling in the west wing.
