GV II*
House, now restaurant. Mid C15; remodelled in brick in early C19. Timber frame encased in rendered and colourwashed brick; black-glazed pantile roof with rebuilt central ridge stack. EXTERIOR: 2-storey 3-window front. Ground floor with two 6-panelled doors within plain doorcases with consoles beneath flat hoods: door to right is half-glazed. Two 6/6 unhorned sashes to left of ground floor, in flush frames, and two similar sashes immediately above. Right bay of elevation with one unhorned tripartite sash to each floor with glazing bars arranged: 2/2, 6/6, 2/2. INTERIOR: not inspected but known to contain the following. Early C16 mullioned windows recovered during restoration of 1960s. One ground and one first-floor room with plaster cornice of grape and vine motifs. Plaster ceilings have variety of motifs: fleur-de-lys, sea-horses, roses and Greek honeysuckle ornament. These ceilings probably of 1672, inserted for stay of Duke of York (later James II) who was Admiral of the Fleet at time of battle of Sole Bay.
