Description

Valley Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating back to the 16th century with two stages of construction and a further addition from the 17th century. The building has two storeys and features a cross-passage entrance plan. It is timber-framed and plastered, with the right-hand gable jettied at the first floor. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has an internal chimney made of red brick, along with carved 19th-century bargeboards that include a spike finial. The windows are late 19th-century sash windows, and there is an early 20th-century battened and boarded entrance door.

The early 16th-century core at the right-hand end has substantial framing and shows evidence of unglazed windows with sliding shutters. In the mid or late 16th century, a two-cell extension of wider span was added to the left, showcasing good exposed framing in the hall and service rooms, a plain crown-post roof, and evidence of a cross-passage. During this time, a chimney was inserted, and a staircase wing was added to the rear. Inside the hall, there is a wide fireplace with a cambered lintel. A further parlour cell was added to the left in the 17th century, which includes a fireplace within the rear chimney.
