Description
The Cherries is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 19th centuries. It was originally an open hall house, likely consisting of two cells. The building has two storeys and is constructed with a timber frame and rough-cast exterior. It features a pantiled roof with an internal chimney made of red brick. The early 20th-century windows are casements, and the entrance doors are half-glazed and panelled. Inside, the original crown-post roof over the hall is still intact, showing moderate smoke encrustation. A central open truss supports a cross-quadrate crown post with four solid braces. The left-hand end of the house is hipped but now covered by a later gabled roof. A large central chimney and a first floor were added to the open hall in the 16th or 17th century. Some timber framing is exposed on the interior, and a rear outshut was added in the 19th century. Previously known as Street Farmhouse, this property likely included the adjacent Mill House until the 19th century.
