Description
GRUNDISBURGH THE GREEN TM 25 SW (South side) 2/81 The Village Butcher and Butcher's House GV II House and shop. Mid C19. Yellow Flemish bond brick with a slate roof. Two storeys. Entrance front: 3 bays symmetrically disposed with a projecting plinth which dies back by an offset save at the corners where pilaster buttresses continue upwards and to the centre bay which projects to a level flush with the plinth. The central doorway has a classical surround with fluted columns at either side supporting a ledge, above which is a cambered fanlight. The door has 3 raised and fielded panels with moulded surrounds. To either side of this are ground floor windows of 3 x 4 sash panes with flat-arched heads. Between the floors is a band of three bricks depth which surrounds the sills of the first floor windows which are of 3 x 4 sash panes. Hipped slate roof above. Cross-axial stack to the ridge at right with 2 flues and at left is an axial stack, behind the ridge. The right hand gable wall is blank. Outshut to the ground floor at rear. At the left hand side of the building is a single storey shop addition which projects slightly to the front and has a shop window at right and a half-glazed door at left with a rectangular overdoor light with diamond-pattern glazing bars. Above these is a panel with moulded surround bearing the name of the shop and above this is a battlemented parapet.
