Description

This is a group of six timber-framed buildings, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, located on Market Hill. They present as plastered and lined to resemble ashlar, with an overhanging first floor. The buildings feature a triple-gabled front and are two stories high. The original windows were mullion and transom casements, with three gables each; a central sash window replaces one, and an additional sash window is located to the left. The sash windows have glazing bars. The ground floor features shop fronts; numbers 18 and 20 date to the early 19th century, number 20A is modern, and number 24 has an early 19th-century splay bay. Number 22 was formerly a shop and is now a residence. All listed buildings on Market Hill form a group around the Shire Hall.
