Description
Snape House, which was once the rectory, dates from around 1840. The building features two main wings that form an L-shaped plan, with a later service wing added to the west. It is constructed of white brick and has a slated roof, standing two storeys tall.
The east wing has a three-window range and is accented by brick pilasters at the quoins and entrance bay. An external stack divides the other bays, and there is a brick band at the first floor level and at the base of the parapet. The sash windows have glazing bars and are set in cased frames, with flat brick arches above. The ground and first floor bays on the east side have blank panels. The entrance bay is asymmetrical and was likely altered in the late 19th century; it features a porch with brick pilasters, moulded stone capitals, a stone frieze and cornice, and a wrought iron balcony above. The half-glazed door has small panels and an elliptical arch above it, while the first floor has an elongated sash window with coloured glass.
On the south elevation, there is a six-panel door with raised and fielded panels, accompanied by an elliptical fanlight with glazing bars. The building also has paired octagonal flues with moulded bases and tops. The west wing mirrors the fenestration of the east wing and has a parapet with a brick dentil course and triglyphs.
