Description
4 and 6 Queen Street is a pair of houses that have been converted into a shop and a flat. They date from the early 18th century and were encased in brick and re-roofed in the late 19th century. The buildings were further converted in the 20th century, featuring an early 20th-century shop front. The structure is timber-framed and covered in painted brick, topped with a slate roof that has a central ridge and brick stacks at the right end.
The exterior consists of two storeys and a dormer attic with a two-window front. To the left is a plate-glass shop front, while a half-glazed door on the right leads to the upper accommodation. On the first floor, there is one flush-framed unhorned 6/6 sash window to the left and a projecting square oriel window with casements to the right. The roof features two raking dormers fitted with top-hung casements.
Inside, there is a chamfered bridging beam on the ground floor, and the principal studs are jowled, with some featuring nicked tongue stops.
