Description
The Elms is a house with a late 16th/early 17th century core, significantly altered in the late 19th century with a Gothic style facade, and extended to the right in a matching style in the early 20th century. The core of the house is timber-framed and has a red brick facade, covered by a roof of glazed pantiles. It is two storeys and has an attic. The older part of the house has a five-window front with 2-light and 3-light small-paned casement windows. These windows have pointed glazing bars to the upper panes of each light, splayed reveals, and hood moulds. There is an entrance porch with a crenellated parapet, containing double 3-panel doors. Three large gabled dormers with scalloped bargeboards are present in the attic. An internal stack and an external stack are situated at the left-hand gable end. The addition to the right has a two-storey splayed bay and a crenellated parapet. One ground floor room contains an ornamental plaster ceiling, likely from the 18th century.
