Description
The Earl Soham War Memorial is a granite structure featuring a tall Latin cross with a tapering shaft, which stands on a three-stepped base. The upper steps are square in shape. An inscription in metal lettering on the front face of the top step reads "1914-1918 TO THE VICTORIOUS DEAD." The names of twenty individuals who died during the First World War are inscribed on the front face of the middle step. The bottom step is octagonal, and it has an inscription in applied metal lettering that reads "1939-1945" along with five names.
Small granite flower holders are positioned on the top step of the base and beside the diagonals of the lower step. The memorial is located on a small, triangular grassed area adjacent to The Street, just outside the entrance to the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I-listed building. Low wooden posts outline the edge of the grassed area.
