Description
The Gables is a house with a 17th century core and a late 19th century facade, located on the south side of The Street in Earl Soham. The building is timber framed and plastered, with the plaster designed to imitate ashlar, and it has a thatched roof. It is a single storey with an attic. The windows are casement style, featuring tall rectangular lights divided by a single horizontal glazing bar, and there are hood moulds above them. The doorway is asymmetrical and includes a thatched porch and a boarded door. There are two gabled half-dormers with scalloped bargeboards. To the left, there is a gabled wing that is set forward, along with a mid-20th century extension that has an overhanging first floor at the gable end. The house has an internal stack and an external stack on the right side.
