Description
Corner House and Corner Close are two houses and a shop dating from the 16th century, built in two or more phases. They form an L-shaped plan and feature a timber-framed and plastered structure with a plain tiled roof. The main range, which faces The Street, has a well-preserved exterior with five windows. These include 18th-century two-light and three-light casements with square leaded panes, and the two ground floor windows are fitted with paired boarded shutters. On the left side, there is a mid-19th-century doorway with a six-panel door, where the upper two panels are glazed, along with reeded pilasters, a panelled frieze, and a cornice. On the right side, there is a later 19th-century boxed-out shopfront framed by pilasters, featuring an inset half-glazed door. Above this doorway is a mid-20th-century display of the Royal Arms of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and the shopfront has a small glazed addition on the left side. The north wing has two windows with mullion and transom casements, a mid-20th-century panelled door, and an internal stack. The interiors have been modernised.
