Description
The bridge located 30 meters southeast of Earl Soham Lodge spans the moat surrounding the lodge. It is likely from the 16th century, with some later rebuilding. The bridge is constructed of red brick, primarily laid in English bond, and features stone copings, two arches, and a flat parapet. Extending from the bridge to the west along the inside of the moat is a 40-meter length of red brick walling, which is also from the 16th century or earlier and laid in English bond. This wall is about 1 meter high on the inner side and rises to 2.5 meters above the moat. The section of walling closest to the house includes the bases of two brick bays, believed to be remnants of an earlier house that once stood on the site.
