Description
The churchyard walls of St Mary's Church, along with the gate piers, gate, railings, and bollards, date from the medieval period and later. These walls define the boundary on all four sides of the churchyard. They are partly constructed of flint with a wide coping made of red brick, and partly made entirely of red brick. The east side previously featured railings above, of which only two short lengths remain beside the tall square entrance gate piers, which have stone capping and ball finials. Smaller piers similar in design now serve as stops for the remaining railings. The wrought iron gate has panelled standards and an overthrow. A section of the wall includes a chamfered plinth, and the stone base of the railings that have been removed now acts as coping.
