Description
Reydon Hall is a house, with an east wing dated 'TF192' (likely 1792), and substantial alterations and enlargement in the mid and late 19th century. The house is constructed of red brick, with a mainly plaintiled roof. It is two storeys and has attics.
The projecting east wing has three cross windows with diamond-leaded glass, some of which are original. The facade features a first-floor brick band and a moulded brick eaves cornice, with Dutch gable ends marked by brick bands. An internal stack contains four mid to late 19th-century flues with moulded brick shafts.
The main block presents a symmetrical seven-bay facade, arranged as 2:1:1:1:2, with the central bays projecting. It features inset sash windows with glazing bars, each with a flat brick arch and a hood mould. Attic windows are present, and a glazed entrance door was added in the mid-20th century. Three Dutch gables are situated over the side and centre bays. Numerous Tudor-style stacks are visible. A series of three Dutch-gabled wings extend from the rear.
Attached to the north of the east wing is an 18th-century stable block, with a hipped roof and alterations made in the mid-20th century. From 1808 to 1864, Reydon Hall served as the principal residence of Agnes Strickland, an author known for her biographical work, 'Lives of the Queens of England.'
