Description

The Church of St. Margaret is a parish church located on Wangford Road in Reydon. It dates back to the medieval period and underwent significant restoration between 1876 and 1888. The church features a nave, chancel, west tower, and south porch, constructed from random flint and stone rubble with stone dressings, and has slated roofs.

The 14th-century square tower has three-stage diagonal buttresses on the west face and a projecting stair turret on the south side. It includes a two-light Perpendicular west window and two-light openings in the bell chamber, with the south one altered. The tower is topped with a crenellated parapet that has flushwork panels. The church has a three-bay nave and a two-bay chancel, both from the 15th century, featuring square-headed and segmental-headed windows, most of which were renewed in the 19th century. The east window is a three-light design in the Perpendicular style from the 19th century.

Inside, the nave and chancel have mid to late 19th-century scissor-braced rafter roofs. There is a trefoil-headed piscina in the south nave and an ogee-arched piscina in the south sanctuary. Five of the six nave windows have statue niches in their east splays, with the center one on the north side featuring a cusped arch with traces of color. The east splays of the chancel windows have more elaborate niches, with the southeast window displaying two niches stacked one above the other: the lower niche has a cusped and crocketed arch with tracery in the spandrels, while the upper niche has a shallow ogee arch adorned with fleurons. The church also contains mid to late 19th-century furnishings and displays the arms of Anne, dated 1713, above the south doorway.
