Description
The Reydon War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, with later additions for the Second World War. It is made of Cornish granite and is located in the churchyard to the south of the Church of St Margaret, which is listed as Grade II*.
The memorial features a Latin cross atop a tapering plinth with a single-stepped base. At the center of the cross is a relief-carved Christogram ‘IHS’. The entire structure stands approximately 2.6 meters high.
On the east face of the plinth, there is a main inscription in leaded lettering within a recessed panel that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD, AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF REYDON, WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR, 1914 – 1919." This panel lists 29 names. Additionally, the step of the memorial bears the inscription: "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE."
On the south face of the plinth, there is an additional inscription in leaded lettering that commemorates the Second World War, stating: "1939 – 1945," along with 10 names, which include one civilian casualty.
